What is TYPE-02?
TYPE-02 is a music discovery app made by Type Studio. A user picks one song, and TYPE-02 reads what's driving it and recommends other songs that share it. The analysis and recommendations are written by Gemini, Google's AI model. TYPE-02 exists because finding music that feels like a song you love shouldn't depend on genre tags alone.
How does sign-in work?
Through Supabase Auth, with an email address and password. TYPE-02 shares its account system with the Type Studio app, so the same sign-in, credits, Type Pro subscription, and run history work in both.
Does it connect Spotify or any streaming account?
No. A user never signs in to a streaming service through TYPE-02. Song search runs on TYPE-02's backend against the Apple Music catalog, so a user types a song name and picks from the results. A user can play any song's 30-second preview in the app, and each recommendation has links that open the song on Spotify, Apple Music, or Last.fm to hear it in full there.
What can a user do in the app?
The home screen has one big button. Tapping it opens TYPER EXPLORE with the song search ready: a user picks a song, picks Mini or Max, and starts the run. When it finishes, the result lists recommended songs grouped into batches, each with the reason it was picked, a preview to play, and a heart to like it. Liked songs collect on the Liked page, and Settings holds the account, the subscription, and the legal pages.
What's the difference between Mini and Max?
Mini is a quick pass: four batches of recommendations in about 10 to 30 seconds. Max digs deeper: it forms around ten ideas about what drives the song, checks each one, and builds recommendations from the ones that hold up, in about 30 to 60 seconds. A Max result can also be refined by chat, for example asking for a batch that's more acoustic or more upbeat.
Does TYPE-02 cost anything?
It's freemium. A new account gets 15 complimentary starter credits. A Mini run costs 6 credits and a Max run costs 7, and the cost is shown before a user starts a run. Refining a Max result by chat, resuming a run, or adding more recommendations to it is free, and a run that fails to start isn't charged.
After the starter credits, Type Pro keeps a user exploring. Type Pro is $9.99 a month (or the local-currency equivalent the store shows), auto-renewing through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and each billing period comes with 400 credits. A user can cancel anytime from their store account settings, at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Subscription status is verified on the backend, so it follows the account across devices and into the Type Studio app.
Where do liked songs go?
They stay on the device, in the Liked list for the account that liked them. They aren't sent to Type Studio's servers, so they don't follow a user to another device, and deleting the app removes them.
What powers TYPE-02?
Gemini on Google Vertex AI writes the analysis and recommendations. Apple Music, Last.fm, Deezer, iTunes Search, and Spotify supply song search, song details, cover art, and the 30-second previews. TYPE-02 never sends audio to the AI, and it doesn't host or sell full-length songs.
Is a user's data private?
Yes. TYPE-02 shows no ads, runs no analytics or advertising SDKs, sells no data, and trains no model on it. The backend calls only the services listed in the privacy policy, and only with the data each one needs. The full breakdown is on the privacy policy page.
Can a user delete everything?
Yes. Every run on the analyze screen has a delete control. For a full wipe, Delete Account under Settings, Manage Account removes the account and the data tied to it, in TYPE-02 and the Type Studio app alike. A user who can't sign in can email [email protected] from the address they signed up with instead.
How long does a run take?
A Mini run lands in about 10 to 30 seconds and a Max run in about 30 to 60. The backend sleeps when nobody is using it, so the first run after a quiet stretch can take a little longer.
How good are the recommendations?
Usually good, but they come from an AI, so they're best-effort. Descriptions of a song's sound or history, and the reasons given for a pick, can be wrong even when they read confidently, and a recommended song might not be available in every region or on every streaming service. When a batch misses, a Max chat request or another run usually does better.
What happens when a run fails?
The run's card shows a short message saying it didn't finish. A user deletes that card and starts the run again; a run that fails to start isn't charged. If something keeps failing, reporting it to [email protected] gets it fixed faster.
